Book Review:
Family Reunion Planning Organizer
Author: Donna Beasely
I think the book "Family Reunion Planner" by Donna Beasely is poetic in it's introduction while logical and
informative regarding reunion event planning. The single
illustration that permeates the pages, a parallel between a musical
orchestration and the various parties making up the family reunion
including the planning committee, is
engaging.
Although many of the matters pertaining to organizing
a family reunion is there, I would have liked to have had more detail on
the various aspects of planning. Still there is a certain hand held
guidance that bespeaks the wisdom and experience of generations in this
book.
I appreciate that the author, Donna Beasley chose to stand on the
back of Giants to bring an important message of family union to the fore
along with helpful tips and guides.
As good a read as it is I would have preferred the
author detail how to set up a budget and
tabulate dues on a spreadsheet and more detailed reunion specific
calculation tips.
On a good note, the importance of having plenty of preparation time
as well as all needed support via good committee and subcommittee
organization and communication is stressed.
I'm certain many readers
of this book would clamor for more explanation regarding record keeping, lists and correspondence format as
well as detailed committee and subcommittee fact sheet and action item
documentation the book does well providing a general overview of what is
involved in preparing a family reunion event in modest numbers.
Beasely approaches the issues of communication and
follow thru with purpose and I feel that if the book does anything it
articulates and explains the vital factor of good. communication and
following thru very clear as any family reunion planning guide book
should.
I would recommend it as a first read when
contemplating the initial startup of a family reunion. I would suggest the
reader move on to a more detailed instructive event planning manual along
with helpful software, templates, checklists, action item forms,
correspondence spreadsheet and calculation tools.
